The Eurovision 2015 Song Contest will take place in Vienna on May 19th, 21st, and 23rd with the official slogan “Building Bridges.”
The creative team of the Armenian Public TV Company considered this year’s official ESC slogan and numerous requests from Armenian Diaspora; being inspired by the Armenian Genocide Centennial symbol Forget-me-not flower, the team decided to introduce a new format.
Valuing the idea of peace, unity, and tolerance the creative team of the AMPTV united the new generation of the Armenian people spread through 5 continents around the world in the year of 1915. 5 singers from Europe, Asia, America, Africa, and Australia with Armenian origin are associated with the 5 petals of the Forget-me-not flower. The 6th artist from Armenia will join the group to unify the petals. The group is being created especially for the contest and is called “Genealogy”. The new generation will sing ‘Face The Shadow’ (Formerly “Don’t Deny”).
Essaï Altounian is the first member of the band representing Armenia in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest to be announced. The well-known French-Armenian singer will represent the continent Europe in the project.
Tamar Kaprelian is the second member of the band Genealogy, representing Armenia in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest with Face The Shadow. Born and raised in the US, she will represent the continent of America in the project.
Vahe Tilbian is the third confirmed member of the band Genealogy, representing Armenia in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest with Face The Shadow. Born and raised in Ethiopia, he will represent the continent of Africa in the project.
Stephanie Topalian is the fourth confirmed member of the band Genealogy, representing Armenia in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest with Face The Shadow. Residing in Japan, she will represent the continent of Asia in the project.
Mary-Jean O’Doherty Vasmatzian is the fifth confirmed member of the band Genealogy, representing Armenia in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest with Face The Shadow. She will represent the Australia in the project.
The 6th member of the group is the famous and honored singer of the Republic of Armenia Inga Arshakyan. She will be the one to replenish the group of five singers symbolizing the five continents of the world on Eurovision stage
The director of the music video is Aren Bayadyan. The song ‘Face The Shadow’ was composed by Armen Martirosyan and the author of the lyrics is Inna Mkrtchyan. It is about universal values and its message is:
“Happiness is born when people are united and live in harmony with themselves, their families, love relationships and so on. Generations are shifting with time but the genealogy remains, thus the values of love and peace are stable.”
As her first Armenian release, Maria Cozette has recreated the traditional song, “Adana,” in commemoration of the Armenian Genocide Centennial. The music is a collaboration of Cozette and dynamic producer, Araik Mouradian “MG.” With a resonating melody familiar to Armenians around the world, “Adana,” describes the Adana Massacre of 1909- a precursor to the Genocide.
Cozette and Mouradian created the musical arrangement, incorporating pop elements while remaining true to its original sound. The approach in producing this composition was meticulous with the accompaniment of talented musicians Ruben Harutunyan (Duduk), Vahagni (Guitar), Sarkis Gyurgchyan (Violin), Garik Terzian (Cello). The traditional spirit was protected while a new generation is introduced to a song that is already a part of the Armenian cultural fabric.
Maria Cozette is an award winning Soulful Pop singer, songwriter, producer, and television host. In the last decade, she has commenced a new breath into Armenian Pop music. In 2014, Cozette was honored by Senator Carol Liu for accomplishments in entertainment, contributions to charitable organizations, and pioneering the first English show to air on an Armenian television network, Music Box with Maria Cozette.
On June 26, 2014, the artist released her third studio album, “The Light of Day,” solidifying a fan base worldwide, notably Philippines, Japan, Russia, Poland, Germany, Australia, Armenia, Canada, France, Italy, and the United States. The album was produced and written by Cozette in its entirety and has gained rave reviews by critics.
Aside from her milestones in entertainment, Cozette is deemed a prominent public figure in the Armenian community due to her involvement in the non-profit sector. She serves on the Board of Advisers for the Cancer Care Network Foundation and Ambassador to the Unified Young Armenians. Her otherwise commitment to cultural enrichment is profound, as well as her dedication in utilizing her platform to convey a positive message to the youth.
